Continue reading below as I dive into each lesser-known destination in Colorado that is worth exploring for a memorable getaway.

1. Ouray

Nestled in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, Ouray, often referred to as the “Switzerland of America,” captivates visitors with its picturesque charm, Victorian architecture, and the soothing embrace of natural hot springs.

Our adventure began on a crisp winter morning as we embarked on a long weekend escape to this hidden gem in Colorado.

Ouray’s downtown, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, greeted us with its historic buildings and quaint atmosphere.

The town’s main draw, however, is its rejuvenating hot springs. After a day of skiing, one of the best ways to unwind and relax is by soaking in the Ouray Hot Springs Pool, surrounded by a blanket of snow, creating a truly enchanting winter experience.

One of the highlights of our trip was the breathtaking drive along the Million Dollar Highway, connecting Ouray to the historic mining town of Silverton.

This stretch of highway, known for its dizzying cliffs and incredible views, provides a mesmerizing journey through the San Juan Mountains.

Taking advantage of Ouray’s strategic location, we decided to embark on a day trip to the renowned ski destination of Telluride.

The drive, filled with panoramic views, set the stage for an unforgettable skiing adventure.

Telluride’s world-class slopes, framed by the towering peaks of the Rocky Mountains, offers a perfect backdrop for a day filled with exhilarating runs and aprรจs-ski relaxation.

Our long weekend journey to Ouray and Telluride was a blend of alpine beauty, Victorian charm, and adrenaline-pumping winter sports.

But, Ouray is also a phenomenal place to visit during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. There are plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy hiking, camping, or the infamous Ouray Via Ferrata.

Whether you want to simply unwind in one of Coloradoโ€™s best hidden gems or you want to make Ouray your home for day trips to Telluride, itโ€™s worth a visit for its small town charm and beautiful scenery.

After a day of exhilarating skiing, there is nothing like retreating back to the Glenwood Hot Springs, the world’s biggest mineral hot springs pool.

The contrast of the warm, steaming waters against the chilly winter air is nothing short of magical.

We loved our time enjoying the Glenwood Hot Springs. The pools are large for many people to enjoy the waters without feeling crowded. Plus, the amenities at the hot springs are top-notch.

Besides the hot springs, it has an adorable historic downtown, adorned with holiday lights, offering a delightful atmosphere for leisurely strolls during the winter months.

Plus, the town is bursting with delicious restaurants, bars, and breweries to try. From cozy mountain bistros to elegant restaurants, each venue presented a unique blend of flavors that reflected the town’s vibrant character.
