Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort has some of the best terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels but is more catered to the expert skier with significant amounts of black diamond, double black diamond, tree skiing, and several terrain parks.

One of the biggest reasons that A-Basin stands out is due to its quality of slopes but quaint base area. Unlike many of the best snowboarding resorts in the US, A-Basin does not have any lodging on site nor does it have a village area.

This ski resort does have a handful of restaurants, bars, and shops at the bottom of the base area; however, A-Basin is known for what locals like to call “The Beach.”

The Beach is the front row parking facing the slopes and is known for endless hangouts, tailgate style cooking, friendly conversation, and countless dogs on leash.

The atmosphere at Arapahoe Basin is truly unmatched and is one of our most beloved Colorado ski resorts due to its friendly and local vibe.

Many people know Telluride as a popular ski resort for celebrities to visit and stay slope-side but there is much more to this resort and town.

Telluride was initially founded as a mining town in 1878, so it still holds onto that rustic vibe, but it has all of luxury you could want at a ski resort. From skiing directly into downtown to those dive bars with Telluride’s new upscale twist to views of the mountains from main street that are straight off of a postcard.

Telluride is a bit out of the way from Denver, but if you don’t mind a quick layover in the Denver airport you can fly directly into the airport 10 minutes from downtown Telluride. This is a great option to start off your picture perfect vacation.

9. Aspen, Colorado

Aspen is one the most boujee places to ski in the US. Between its phenomenal snowboarding, five-star hotels, unbelievable dining, and top of the line, designer shopping… Aspen has it all.

What most people don’t know about Aspen is that it is separated into four different mountains.

Starting with Aspen mountain where you can ski directly into downtown to any of the shopping or dining options you could ever want.

Another mountain is Aspen Highlands where there is no beginner terrain and the infamous hike-to Highlands bowl.

Then there is Snowmass which has its own village area, incredible ski-in/ski-out accommodations, and is the biggest of the four mountains.

Finally, there is Buttermilk which is the most family friendly with the most beginner terrain, but is also home to the X Games every year.

If that seems like a lot of getting around and confusion, don’t worry because Aspen is connected through an incredible, free shuttle system and the same lift ticket gets you into all four resorts!

Speaking of getting around, Aspen has it’s own airport! With direct flights from San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta, and Denver.

When it comes to Montana in the winter, Big Sky could not be a better destination to visit for its one of a kind snowboarding and skiing experience.

As the name suggest, there just seems to be something about those bluebird days in Montana where the sky just seems to be a little bigger and to go on forever!

11. Copper, Colorado

Oftentimes Copper is overshadowed by some of the bigger name Colorado resorts such as Vail, Breckenridge, Aspen, and Telluride… but I am here to tell you that Copper needs to be added to your list for bucket list snowboarding experience in the US. Home to the United States ski team, there is plenty of steep terrain and back bowls to explore or if the park is more of your thing then be sure to hit the Superpipe!

Copper is right off of I-70, so the drive is straightforward from Denver and it has a surprising amount of accommodations and restaurants at the base. Since Copper is between Breckenridge and Vail the crowds and lift lines don’t seem to be as large, which is always a great benefit!

Where to Stay:

đź“Ť Tucker Mountain Lodge – This lodge is a great option for those looking to be near the slopes and near countless restaurants and bars in the area!

12. Sun Valley, Idaho

Many people don’t think of Idaho when they think of skiing, but that is starting to change for good reason. 15. Keystone, Colorado

One of my personal favorite Colorado mountains to ski is Keystone! This ski resort is right down the road from the infamous Breckenridge Ski Resort but is a little less crowded compared to the bigger name resort.

A massive reason that Keystone stands out amongst the other resorts is that it is home to the largest night skiing in the state of Colorado, so grab your night skiing goggles and head towards Keystone for some late night runs!

Furthermore, Keystone has been investing in their resort by adding a new lift and building more accommodations in the village! This is excellent for those that prefer to stay slope side.

However, if you’re looking to save a little money then check out the nearby town of Dillion for accommodations, it is a super cute mountain town on the gorgeous Dillion Reservoir, not far from Keystone.

Where to Stay:

On top of that, Crystal gets nearly 500 inches of snow annually and is only 2 hours from Seattle. On the few days it’s not snowing at Crystal Mountain you get an epic view of Mt. Rainier!

The base area might be limited, but that makes the incredible ski conditions all the more worth it since there will naturally be less crowds.

Not only is the tree skiing divine for experts but they also have some great options for beginner and intermediate skiers to enjoy the trees too!

Another reason that Heavenly is so well-liked by skiers and snowboarders is because of its uniqueness and breathtaking views. Heavenly lies between the California and Nevada border, in fact you can ski down either side in the same day! Meanwhile, you can catch some of the marvelous views of Lake Tahoe down below.

Lastly, a major reason that this resort is so sought after is that its location is incredible right near Lake Tahoe. 18. Brighton, Utah

Brighton Resort is one of Utah’s finest ski resorts and stands out compared to many resorts for several reasons. To begin, Brighton is the only resort in Utah that can claim that all of their skiable terrain can be accessed by high speed quad chair lifts.

Another reason that Brighton stands out is their incredible ski school for children and adults alike. There are endless options to choose from based on age, group vs private lessons, night vs day lessons and much more.

Furthermore, Brighton has the largest amount of night skiing in the state of Utah with over 20 trails for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy. Just like the other Utah resorts on this list, Brighton also gets over 500 inches of snow! With Solitude the turn off before and not as many options at the base, rent one of the cute A-frames nearby, bring a bagged lunch like a local, and find the powder stashes days after a snowstorm!

Where to Stay:

đź“Ť The Grand America Hotel – One of our favorite things to do when skiing or snowboarding in Utah is to stay in Salt Lake City and drive up to the resorts! We love this because it is a quick drive to phenomenal skiing but gives you the option to stay in the city with countless restaurants and shopping.

19. Sugar Bowl, California

Sugar Bowl is an excellent ski resort near Lake Tahoe. Sugar Bowl is known for its tremendous amount of snow that is accumulated each year and its expert ski terrain.

Being a little further away from the allure of Lake Tahoe you get all of the benefits (massive amounts of snow) of the area without the massive crowds that can be found at some of the other resorts in the area.

An additional benefit is being able to save a little money by staying somewhere a little off the beaten path and still having an incredible mountain get away!
