This past Saturday we were fortunate enough to go on a craft beer adventure with Denver Microbrew Tour. We were so excited for this tour because we are such huge craft beer fans and are always looking for something new and exciting to do around the Denver metro area and knew we had to test out the best Denver brewery tours.

After a little bit of research we came across Denver Microbrew Tour and knew that we had to check it out as one of the best Denver brewery tours in the area!

The Best Denver Brewery Tours: Why We Picked Denver Microbrew Tour

The first thing that jumped out to us when visiting their website the first time was the phenomenal reviews that they had on Google and TripAdvisor.

Additionally, we were very impressed with how many different tour options that they offer. You can pick from various options including different locations such as the LoDo Route or the RiNo Route. 

For those of you that are visiting the metro area or are new to Denver, both of these areas are neighborhoods inside/near downtown Denver. LoDo stands for Lower Downtown Denver and is known for its shopping and restaurants and is frequently known for the trendy and robust Larimer Square.

RiNo stands for River North Art District and is known for its immense art life, street murals, and trendy neighborhood vibes. Both of these areas are phenomenal locations to check out and have a tremendous amount to offer when it comes to city life and unique atmospheres. 

Our Experience with Denver Microbrew Tour:

Ultimately, we decided to go with the RiNo Route because we haven’t really explored that area of Denver yet and we wanted to get to know their craft beer scene as well as the history behind the neighborhood. Specifically, we chose the RiNo Beer and Graffiti Walking Tour in Denver.

All we can say is WOW! Are we glad that we picked this tour and route… there was so much information offered by our guide, the craft beer was exceptional, and the history of the neighborhood was extremely special. If you are looking for the best Denver beer tours then keep reading down below at our incredible experience with this company!

Stop One: Ratio Beerworks

The microbrew tour started at 11:45 AM and we met the group at Ratio Beerworks. We were immediately met by our tour guide Hunter and quickly grabbed a seat with the other tour members. In front of us, was a taste glass for each member of our tour group so that we could all try about 4 ounces of beer at a time.

After waiting just a few minutes for a couple stragglers to show up, we went over some brief introductions such as our names, where we are from, and our favorite type of beer. We quickly felt like we were in great hands because our tour guide Hunter shared his extensive history in the craft beer industry and informed us that he not only does tours but works at a brewery and hopes to own his own one day!

You could immediately tell that Hunter was not only passionate about craft beer but admires the history and process that goes into making such delicious beer as well. He was very enthusiastic, informative, and friendly throughout the entire tour which made the experience all the more enjoyable. 

After introductions, our tour guide had three pitchers of beer on the table and passed them out one at a time. He briefly explained the different types of beer to us along with their various palettes and ingredients featured within each beer.

After he was done explaining the beer to us we all enjoyed the beer one at a time. Once we were all finished, he repeated the process with the next two pitchers of beer. Each time, there was a small amount of each pitcher left over so we took turns pouring our favorites into our tasting glasses until all of the pitchers were empty.

Stop Two: Odell Brewing Company

The next location that we went to was Odell Brewing Company! It was just a short walk down the road and we were so excited to experience this brewery because we always see Odell beer in Colorado grocery stores.

Upon our arrival, we headed upstairs and sat in some soft seating while we waited for our tour guide to grab some pitchers of beer. He repeated the process of describing the beers to us and passing the pitchers so that we could each taste the delicious craft brews.

Meanwhile, he told us the history behind Odell Brewing Company and the significance of the building we were in. We really enjoyed this brewery because of the freedom they give their staff! Two of the beers we tried were fully created by two of their bartenders!

One being a key lime pie inspired beer and it is by far Sam’s favorite sour beer he has ever had. Whether that beer is in the rotation when you are on your tour or not, you are guaranteed to try some amazing and creative beers from Odell Brewing Company.

Stop Three: Howdy Beer

From there we headed down the street to our next brew location. On our way to Howdy Beer we passed an immense amount of street art and wall murals, each one was more beautiful than the last, and each had a different story to tell.

Hunter, our tour guide, explained to us that various street artists come from near and far to display their art on various buildings in the RiNo district and that each piece has a different story behind it.

One of my favorite pieces was of an Asian lady painted on a building. Come to find out, the artist has several pieces throughout the Denver area that all portray an Asian woman with various characteristics but each piece only contains the colors black, white, and red. 

As we walked through the streets and heard different pieces of history behind the neighborhood and the wall art. We made our way to Howdy Beer, a local beer and cider joint in the area. We grabbed a few tables outside and our tour guide grabbed some pitchers of cider for us to enjoy!

We repeated the same process of tasting the cider and hearing the story behind them and their various characteristics. Sam and I are not huge cider fans but we truly enjoyed stepping outside of our comfort zones and trying some of these delicious hard ciders! So even if you aren’t a huge cider person, do not let this discourage you… they were amazing!

Stop Four: Bierstadt Lagerhaus

Finally we ended our tour at Bierstadt Lagerhaus, which was my personal favorite! Bierstadt is a massive brewery filled with craft beer, games, and plenty of seating. We made our way to the top floor and grabbed a few tables.

Our tour guide gave us a heads up that we’d be trying a full beer at this location and that it takes about 7-8 minutes to pour due to Bierstadt staying completely authentic.

We were really intrigued by this and excited to try a traditional Pilsner. After waiting for a few minutes, we were pleasantly surprised with how delicious the beer was and the unique history behind the brew and the machinery used to make the craft beer.

As we enjoyed the beer, we also ordered some food from the QR code on the table and the food was delivered directly to us within minutes! We highly recommend the bavarian pretzel with their cheese dip, it was absolutely mouth wateringly delicious.

Overall, Denver Microwbrew Tous has the best Denver brewery tours in the area. Their staff were friendly from the time we reached out to them to the morning of and so was our tour guide.

They are extremely knowledgeable of their craft and they love teaching people about their passion for beer and making your Denver experience all the more enjoyable. They take you to the best Denver breweries in town and you learn more about the city during the duration of the tour.

Sam and I are two locals and have tried close to 20 different breweries since moving to the Denver area and we still had an absolute blast learning new things, exploring new areas of RiNo, indulging in delicious craft brews, and learning the history behind one of Denver’s most trendy neighborhoods.
