Soccer (football) is a sport that has captivated people around the world for decades. Most fans have a team they support, especially during major events like the Euros.

If you’re curious about past champions, I’ve got you covered. Here are the winners from the last forty years!

1984 – France

France won the 1984 Euros against Spain, with a 2-0 victory in their home country.

1988 – Netherlands

The Netherlands flag flying.

The Netherlands faced the Soviet Union and secured a 2-0 victory to take home the prize. The games were held in Germany.

1992 – Denmark

Denmark defeated Germany 2-0 in Sweden in 1992.

1996 – Germany

Germany beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in London, England. 

2000 – France

France secured another victory, this time against Italy, with a 2-1 win in the Netherlands.

2004 – Greece

Greece pulled off a major upset by defeating the home team, Portugal, 1-0.

2008 – Spain

Spain defeated Germany 1-0 in Austria.

2012 – Spain

Spain became back-to-back champions by defeating Italy with a dominant 4-0 victory in Ukraine.

2016 – Portugal

Portugal pulled off a major upset by defeating France 1-0 in a game hosted in Paris, France.

2020 – Italy

The Euros were actually played in 2021, but we refer to it as the 2020 title because of what was going on in the world during that year. 

They faced England in the finals, which ended in a 1-1 tie, leading to penalty kicks. Italy ultimately won the shootout 3-2 in penalties in London, England to take home the victory.
